Abilene High JV & Varsity vs Weatherford
2019 Abilene High XC District Champs, Sherrod Park, Abilene, Texas
District Championship at Sherrod Park, Abilene, TX
October 16th, 2019
Abilene High hosted the event on the hilly terrain of Sherrod Park where they train in the mornings. It is in the NE side of Abilene near ACU. What a great showing the course looked fun & winding. Most of the action could be viewed from one perch if you weren't mobile. Both Varsity boys & girls teams took home the title for 2019. I believe their next regional event will be held in Lubbock on Monday the 21st. Good luck!
2019 Cooper Volleyball Senior Night vs Aledo (District Champs) @ Cooper Gym
2019 Playoffs | Abilene Cooper High School Cougars vs El Paso Del Valle Conquistadors
Played at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene, TX. Defense for the Cougars was the story of the game, 6 interceptions & 3 for touchdowns. Cooper's #1 INT leader in their school's history got himself another one, Dylon Davis. Brady Miller started the night off with a deflected pass for an INT TD, which was off a great hit from Jeremiah Flores on the Conquistador WR. Isaiah Boutte had a 100 yard INT returned for a TD as well.
2019 Abilene Cooper Cougars vs Canyon - Catclaw Classic
Game comes down to two 3 point foul shots in last seconds!
Every game has it's own closing. You never can predict what can happen in the 4th quarter in general, of any game. Much less, the last minutes & seconds. Josh Henry is a very confident basketballer. His ball handling is calm, collected & fundamentally sound. He was fouled on the Cooper end shooting a baseline three, down one, stepped to the free-throw line with one dribble each time & drained three. As the ball traveled down to the other side, down by two, the Brook Hill player shot a three with 0.8s left in the game & was fouled by a blocking call. Unfortunately, the player wasn't able to make the shots needed. Cooper inbounded & it felt like Cooper was able to steal one. They had to come back several times in the second half. But, timing is everything, right?
Your basketball game is not complete without a consistent free throw %. If you want to be the clutch closer, the go-to, the man, you can't do it without a free throw game. #KeepPracticing
Cooper looks smaller than the two other Abilene teams (AHS & Wylie) but they are scrappy & opportunistic. Judging from last year, they definitely have hot streak potential that can take down any opponent. But, being a smaller team they need to handle box outs & securing rebounds with more urgency to compete on a night in night out basis. I've only watched one of their games so far, so I have a short study to go on at this point.
2019 Abilene Wylie Bulldogs vs Brook Hill Guard - Catclaw Classic
Bulldogs make easy work of Brook Hill...
Final score 52 - 29
The Bulldogs are led by Shayden Payne 5'11 senior PG & 6'2 Payton Brooks senior SG/PF. Shayden is the motor & Payton is the wheels. Brooks can drop 3's like rain & his hot streaks are curtains. Nothing special was really in need in this game, some bench got good playing time & the future is looking solid for Wylie.
21 sophomore Dylan Jennings has a pretty good game, probably my pic for the next to take up the reigns in south Abilene. He's playing behind some pretty dominant seniors, hopefully he picks up on some of their qualities.
40 Walker Piland (junior) & 50 Avery Brekke (soph) both had great games down low. A few seals on the post led to nice feeds & some easy buckets for Piland.
